Journey in the desert: Day 29

I want to keep a journal of this whole MI experience, and I'm not sure how to do it best. Or when to start the timing. We decided over Memorial Day weekend to start pursuing this, but we didn't put our townhouse on the market until June 25. So I'm going with that.

And we're not really in the desert. We're very happy with where we're at right now. We love Colorado, and our life here. But...MI is where our hearts are now. And I feel kind of like MI is our 'promised land'. We went there for a vacation just a couple of weeks ago, and I fell in love with the state all over again. I know without a doubt that MI is where I want to raise my family, and I'm excited to give my girls that experience.

So...Abraham's descendants knew that they would be in the 'promised land' someday. And they knew that they left Egypt to journey there. They knew that was where they were going to end up. But they had to live in the desert for quite a while before they were able to reach their destination. That's a little bit like I feel right now...not so much the desert stuff, but the waiting for the promised land.

Anyway...

Here's the update:
The townhouse has been on the market for 4 weeks now. And we haven't had a showing yet. BUT...we went over there on Sunday to water my plants, and were surprised to find our realtor doing an open house (I guess he decided at the last minute to hold one). And someone actually walked through! This could amount to nothing...but there have been no less than 10 open houses held at that home in the last 5 years, and nobody has ever shown up before.

On the job front:
My hubby had a meeting with the dealership in MI that sells the products that he currently works with. We were there for our vacation, and it worked out for him to meet with the Operations Manager, and the Owner. They don't have a job available currently, but are entertaining the idea of creating a new position sometime in the next year, and wanted to see if he might be a good fit. So that's a closed door for right now, but who knows what the future will hold there.

A few weeks ago, my husband's sister called and let us know that there was an auto dealership in there town (Muskegon) that was looking to expand. She thought they would probably need some 'parts' people (which is what my husband does), and thought my hubby should send in his resume. She called back a week later to let us know that she just read an article in the paper about this company, and how the owners were strong Christians. They even have a foundation that they tithe from, and one of the recipients is Youth for Christ (which is the organization that my husband and I were both working for when he met, dated, and got married).

So my hubby sent his resume in on Tuesday (via e-mail). They called on Friday wanting to talk to him. They set up a phone interview for yesterday morning. After my hubby hung up the phone, he said "It will totally be a God thing if I get this job." He said that they were pretty unorganized, and acted like they hadn't done an interview before. They also told him that they were considering promoting from within, and were also interviewing several other people. So, this job is by no means 'in the bag', but it's definitely not a closed door. God can do amazing things!! We got a little excited when we found out what the salary would be (more than he's making now), and we would love to live in Muskegon near his sister and her family, but we're leaving this in God's hands. He alone knows what is best for us. We trust that He will open and close doors accordingly, and we trust Him infinitely. (Or we're trying to, at least).

On the spiritual front:
We are currently living with my mom, who is not a believer. She is witnessing this whole experience firsthand, and is watching our faith be played out. We are realy praying that we are good witnesses to her, and that we handle this whole situation in a way that will bring glory to God, and maybe even let her see His goodness.

My mom's cousin Vicki and her husband Bob are actually in town right now, visiting. They live in MI, and have never come to visit before. My mom has listened to them tell us how awful the economy and job market are in MI. (There is an 8% unemployment rate, and it's expected to go up to 10%). She has also listened to us tell them that only God could make a way where there seems to be no way. Bob and Vicki are Christians as well, and my mom has seen them pray with us, and she has watched their doubt about our dreams turn into excitement.

We are really trying to submit ourselves to God. Anything good that comes of this situation will not be our doing at all. My husband and I are flawed, and we make mistakes all the time. We definitely don't deserve God to give us His best, but we're thankful that He loves us enough to want the best for us. And anything I say about our faith or obedience is by no means a 'we're better than other people' rag. We struggle every day to hand our cares over to God. We just happen to be in a situation right now where we have no choice BUT to rely completely on Him. And I want to share our story, because if one person is touched by it, and sees God in a different light, then there is nothing better.

So that's where we're at. For this morning, anyway. We'll see what the day brings!!
